Ashley Rawson

Ashley Rawson is a Glasgow-based contemporary artist and lecturer best known for his bold street art, murals, and colourful acrylic paintings. His work uses humour, strong graphic style, and familiar imagery to playfully challenge Glaswegian stereotypes, pop culture, and everyday life in the city.

Working both on the streets and in the studio, Rawson creates art that is easy to connect with while still saying something meaningful.

In his studio practice, Rawson develops recurring series such as his well known 'Weegie Bird' and ‘Glasgow Kiss/Ned' ranges. Here he invents characters and scenarios, referencing Scottish culture while using bright colours and artistic detail to explore identity, class, and self-image with warmth and wit. These works celebrate humour, resilience, and the contradictions of modern Glasgow life.

Rawson’s art is direct, playful, and culturally rooted—inviting viewers to laugh, reflect, and recognise something of themselves in the work.
